There are two main beaches in Vung Tau, Front Beach and Back Beach. Went for walk and strolled along Back Beach, where the main standout is the Tam Thang Tower (Tháp Tam Thắng), the centerpiece of Tam Thang Square (Quảng trường Tam Thắng) in Vung Tau, Vietnam. It’s a striking modern landmark on Bai Sau (Back Beach), along Thuy Van Street in the Thang Tam Ward area. The tower was inaugurated around National Day (September 2, 2025) as part of a larger beachfront renovation project. It consists of 143 reinforced concrete pillars of varying heights (from about 4.55 m to over 34.25 m), arranged in ascending steps that resemble three boat prows reaching toward the sea. This symbolizes the three original fishing villages that make up the area: Thắng Nhất, Thắng Nhì, and Thắng Tam (“Tam Thang” means “Three Victories”).

The beach itself is a far cry from what Vietnam has to offer. Beaches up north tend to be a lot more like Australian beaches, unfortunately due to heavy industry, Vung Tau beaches are a lot less desirable. Back Beach (Bai Sau / Thuy Van Beach) — This is the longest and most popular beach in Vung Tau, stretching about 8 km along the east side. It has wide golden sand, gentle-to-moderate waves, and is great for swimming, walking, water sports (surfing, paddleboarding, kite surfing), and relaxing. The area has been upgraded with the new Tam Thang Square, palm trees, promenades, and plenty of cafes, restaurants, and beach chairs (often ~50,000 VND for the day). It’s lively but spacious enough for everyone. Best for daytime sun and evening lights.
